Helping Homeschool Students Earn the OSSD Credits They Need
Ontario colleges and universities require recognized OSSD credits for admission. A homeschool transcript is not enough. Admissions offices are looking for specific, ministry-recognized courses with assigned codes, like ENG4U or MCT4C.
Based in Kitchener and Guelph, Pathways helps homeschool students earn the Ontario credits they need through flexible, fully online courses that follow Ontario curriculum requirements and are issued through a Ministry-inspected school. We offer online courses and proctoring as needed.

How Pathways Supports Ontario Homeschool Students
-
Getting Credits
We help homeschooled students earn real, ministry-recognized OSSD credits — the specific Grade 11 and 12 courses Ontario colleges and universities are actually looking for.
-
Admissions & Course Planning Support
We help students and parents understand post-secondary admission requirements, choose the right courses, and build a Grade 11 and 12 plan that keeps them on track for their goals.
-
Support for Challenging Courses
Senior Math and English are often where homeschooling becomes more difficult. We step in with expert instruction from an Ontario Certified Teacher to help students succeed in these critical courses.
-
Additional Learning Support
If a student needs more support partway through a course, our additional learning offerings — including tutoring — are available alongside it.
-
Challenge Exams
In some cases, challenge exams may be an option for homeschooled students instead of OSSD credits. Ask us if this could apply to your student!
-
Get Ahead for University
For homeschoolers who want to get ahead, students can work through courses ahead of pace and be prepared for post-secondary earlier than their peers.
Ontario Homeschool Credits: One Course or a Full Transition.
Some families come to us for a single hard-to-teach credit, like Grade 11 Functions or Grade 12 University English. Others are completing a full set of OSSD credits to build a transcript ready for college or university admission. Either way, you're earning real, recognized credits, your way.
-
Take the courses you actually need
Mix and match individual Grade 11/12 credits with your existing homeschool plan. At Pathways, we don't require homeschool students to enrol full-time.
-
Built for university and college admission
Courses are real OSSD credits taught by Ontario Certified Teachers, recognized by Ontario colleges and universities.
-
Flexible, self-paced scheduling
You can still work within the flexible homeschool schedule you're accustomed to. Most students log in a few times a week and move at their own pace toward each credit.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Pathways offer for homeschool students?
What we primarily offer for homeschool students is Grade 11 & 12 online courses and OSSD credits, as well as proctoring when required for things like Challenge Exams.
Alongside these two main services, our guidance counsellors also help homeschool students ensure they have the qualifications required for post-secondary.
Depending on the individual student, we can provide tutoring, college preparation, English language training, and more.
What other requirements do homeschool students have?
To earn Ontario high school credits, students must complete the required coursework, assignments, tests, and evaluations for each course. Credits are awarded by an Ontario-inspected school and assessed by Ontario Certified Teachers. Students pursuing an OSSD must also meet the literacy requirement and complete 40 hours of community involvement.
We'll walk you through the process during your planning call.
What are challenge exams?
A challenge exam lets a student earn credit for a course without taking it in full, by demonstrating through a formal evaluation that they already know the material. This is an Ontario Ministry process, and not every course is eligible. Ask us whether this could apply to your student.
Can I apply to post-secondary with just my homeschool transcript?
Generally, no. Ontario colleges and universities look for recognized OSSD credits on an Ontario Student Transcript, not a homeschool-only record. This is exactly the gap Pathways credits are designed to fill.
How do I know which courses I still need to graduate?
Book a planning call with one of our guidance counsellors. We'll review what your student has already completed and map out exactly which credits are still missing.
Can I still enrol if I'm outside Ontario?
Yes. Pathways is a ministry-inspected school, and courses are delivered fully online. Sudents across Canada can enrol and earn the same OSSD credits.
How long does it take to earn OSSD credits?
Some courses take as little as 4 weeks to complete. Ultimately, it depends on the student and the course. Pathways courses are self-paced, motivated students can move quickly, others may take more time.
Can students with learning differences receive accommodations?
Every student's situation is different, so this is best discussed directly. Reach out and we'll talk through what your student needs and what's possible.
